The Chinese Dragon Shenlong was a divine bringer of rain, necessary for the good of the people. Through out the Chinese history the dragon has been equated with weather. It is said that some of the worse floods were created when a mortal upset a dragon. The dragon also was a symbol for the emperor who's wisdom and divine power assured the well-being of his subjects. Many legends draw connections between the dragon and the emperor. Some have even claimed to have descended from dragons. These spirits or dragons were just as important to the mountains in which the shaolin monks reside in.
